Electrolysis

Electrolysis is performed by the electrologist inserting a very fine, sterile probe alongside the hair in the hair follicle.  A very slight amount of electrical current is applied through this probe, which destroys the hair root, ending further hair growth. Electrolysis is used for white, grey or blonde hair. We use the laser to remove the dark hair because all lasers only pick up dark hair. Therefore it doesn’t pick up the light colored hairs and that’s why we do a combination treatment for one price.

The skin is not punctured or harmed in any way, and for most people the entire process causes very little discomfort. Most patients report tweezing and waxing to be much more uncomfortable than electrolysis. The way that hair removal works for laser or electrolysis is the same. The difference between laser and electrolysis is when electrolysis is done it creates an open follicle for 24 hours, So you don’t want to touch the treated area or put product or makeup on for 24 hours. The area may stay red for a couple of hours to a day or 2. Laser is far less invasive, the laser light is attracted to the dark hair bulb under the skin, thus bypassing the skin and boiling the follicle only. So immediately after laser you can where makeup and put product on.

All hair is in 3 different stages of growth.  The hair can only be killed in the first stage of growth. The second and third stage of growth is dormant, with no bulb present for us to kill. The first stage of growth has a big juicy bulb and that is what where the electrolysis zaps with electricity. Therefore you are only killing a percentage of hair with each treatment. Thus requiring multiple treatments or a year and a half of electrolysis for eyebrows.

So why one over the other? Electrolysis is hair by hair with a teeny tiny needle. In an hour treatment the area treated is 2 to 4 inch area and thats on a heavy covered area. Laser has a spot size of about an inch in diameter and you move it along the area to be treated and the laser fires rapidly and a whole lower face can be done in 3 minutes. Now if you have light and dark hair in the area to be treated, we do both modalities so you will be hairless.
Cost is $75 for 30 min or $150 for an hour. We do use a compounded numbing cream or can inject lidocaine to have no feeling at all.
